Responsibilities
1. Community Awareness & Behaviour Change

Conduct field visits to design and facilitate interactive hygiene promotion sessions (group sessions and door-to-door visits) targeting women, men, and children.

Focus campaigns on key public health risks: safe water handling and storage, handwashing with soap, safe excreta disposal, and prevention of waterborne pathogens.

Mobilize community members and build community-based structures (e.g., water/hygiene committees) to promote sustainable hygiene practices.
2. Distribution & Kit Monitoring

Participate in planning, executing, and supervising the distribution of WASH items and hygiene kits (in-kind distributions).

Ensure transparent target selection criteria are communicated clearly to beneficiaries during the distribution process.

Conduct post-distribution monitoring (PDM) support to ensure proper utilization and acceptance of distributed kits.
3. Coordination & Technical Support
Coordinate closely with Water Quality Monitors to target areas showing low chlorination or high bacterial counts for focused hygiene campaigns.

The Hygiene Promoter will be responsible for implementing field-level public health and hygiene promotion activities to mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases and improve safe sanitation practices among crisis-affected populations. The post-holder will work closely with targeted communities to deliver hygiene awareness sessions, monitor the effective use and maintenance of WASH facilities, distribute hygiene kits (in-kind), and facilitate community engagement.

Monitor community water collection points and household-level water storage to ensure public spaces remain clean and sanitary.

Collect and report community feedback regarding WASH services and standard of operations to the line manager.
4. Data Management & Reporting

Document daily achievements, number of beneficiaries reached (disaggregated by sex and age), and community feedback using KoBo Toolbox or regular logbooks.

Submit concise weekly/monthly field monitoring reports to the WASH Assistant or Officer.

Qualifications
Skills:

Languages:

Arabic — Fluency (writing, reading, speaking)

English — Basic understanding of technical terms.

Computing:

Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Excel) and adaptability to mobile data collection tools (e.g., KoBo Toolbox).
Abilities:
Analytical Skills: Ability and willingness to travel extensively in rural or rugged field conditions daily.
Communication: Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to build trust with vulnerable populations.

Specific Vacancy Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school certificate or intermediate institute diploma (social sciences, community development, nursing, or public health is highly desirable).
General Work Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar role in humanitarian aid or community work within Northwest/Northeast Syria
Technical Experience: Proven experience in conducting field awareness, focus group discussions, community mobilization, or distributing relief supplies
