Responsibilities
Movement On The Ground is looking for a hands-on and detail-driven Accountant to support the financial foundation of our newly established Syria operations. As we start our Rebuild Syria project, you will play an important role in establishing clear financial processes, maintaining accurate bookkeeping, and ensuring that all project-related transactions are properly recorded, documented, and compliant with local requirements.

Team
You’ll be part of a growing international team working across Syria and the Netherlands. You will collaborate closely with the Finance team at Movement On The Ground Netherlands and the local Syria project team to ensure transparent, accurate, and compliant financial management.
As our first finance colleague in Syria, you will have the opportunity to help establish the foundations of our financial administration and support the growth of our operations.
Key Responsibilities
As our Accountant, you will:
-Maintain accurate bookkeeping and financial records for MOTG Syria, ensuring all financial transactions are properly documented, recorded in a timely manner, and compliant with Syrian accounting regulations, local requirements, and MOTG procedures.
-Prepare and maintain cash and bank records, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and balances are regularly verified.
-Record project-related expenses, including contractor payments, suppliers, and operational costs.
-Support the preparation of cost forecasts, monitor project expenditures, and provide financial insights to support effective budget management.
-Ensure all payments are supported by complete documentation, including invoices, receipts, contracts, and payment requests.
Organize, maintain, and archive financial files and documentation in line with local requirements and MOTG procedures.
-Prepare and support the submission of required financial documentation and reports to local authorities, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
-Track project expenditures, contractor and supplier payments, and outstanding balances.
-Prepare monthly financial reports and support budget monitoring for the Finance team.
-Assist in establishing and improving financial processes as MOTG Syria grows.
-Coordinate with the Finance team in the Netherlands to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
-Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance administration.
-Experience with financial documentation, bookkeeping, and transaction recording in accordance with Syrian accounting regulations and practices.
-Knowledge of local Syrian administrative and financial procedures.
-Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial procedures.
-Fluency in Arabic and a good command of English, both written and spoken.
-Good knowledge of Excel and experience working with accounting systems.
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage responsibilities in a growing project environment.
-Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with an international team.
-High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling financial information.
-Experience working with NGOs, humanitarian organizations, or international projects is considered an advantage.
