Responsibilities
- Reads through given material and ascertains understanding of the connotation and context, and converts it into Arabic/English and vice versa, while making sure to preserve the original meaning using specialized dictionaries and translation tools.
- Translates a variety of documents under short-term assignments e.g. reports, admin, procurement, policies, legal, research, technical, scientific, and educational materials.
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy.
- Creates glossaries or term dictionaries and summaries.
- Follow up with requesters and/or Compliance Responsible in PUI to ensure translation meets their intended needs.

Qualifications
Education :
University Degree in English Literature/Translation is required, Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus.
Language skills:
Fluency in both Arabic and English, Written and Verbal Communication, Understanding of Grammar, Knowledge of Specific Subjects
Work experience:
Minimum 1-year experience in a similar position and in translation is required.
Knowledge & skills:
- Typing speed and accuracy.
- Excellent proofreading skills and a clear writing style with an impeccable knowledge to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
- The ability to grasp new concepts quickly, e.g. technical terms.
-Computer skills:
Excellent in MS Office

About us
The current operational strategy for Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) in Syria is to alleviate the human suffering of the Syrian people in Syria by delivering sound, needs-based humanitarian assistance, while promoting a life-sustaining response. PUI's positioning on, shelter, education, livelihoods, and WaSH sectors remain a priority.
Based on ten years of experience conducting humanitarian operations in Syria, supporting Iraqi refugees and lately Syrians affected by the crisis, PUI has played an important role in responding to the needs of the population within nine governorates (Aleppo, Damascus, Rural Damascus, Homs, Hama, Tartous, Lattakia & Dera’a ) and through the following interventions:
- Rehabilitation of collective and private shelters,
- Rehabilitation of infrastructure
- Emergency and Early Recovery WASH interventions
- Education support for conflict-affected populations (remedial classes, school rehabilitations, free exam preparations, summer class activities, community based initatives and psychosocial support),
- Enhancement of the Population of Syria self-reliance through livelihoods (vocational training course, provision of a professional tool kit ((PTK))
