Non-formal Education (NFE) Educators will be working on the provision of education to out of school or at risk of dropping out children. They will also work with vulnerable children attending schools who are at risk of dropout (Ages 6 – 14)
Dorcas is addressing the specific needs of those children by providing them with quality education and skills, to empower them and enabling them to potentially enrol in formal education channels.
Dorcas NFE programs include:
•Basic Literacy and Numeracy classes targeting Out of School Children lacking basic skills;
•Homework support (Remedial Support) classes targeting enrolled children who are struggling with grade level progression;
The different programs will follow the National curriculum when applicable, with the goal of integrating children and retaining children in formal, certified education, enriched by Dorcas mainstreamed classroom based psychosocial and learning activities.
1.Support provision of Non-Formal Education (NFE):
•Implement and follow Dorcas curriculum (for Basic Literacy and Numeracy-BLN) and enrich content where appropriate, including the production and dissemination of teaching handouts and activities sheets, as well as bringing in creativity into classroom activities to more effectively implement the curriculum; implementation of curriculum includes planning for lessons and following/developing standardized lesson plans
•Provide effective teaching and facilitation to children by employing a variety of methodologies in teaching students, including addressing a range of learning styles through active teaching techniques (individual work, pair work, group work, assessments, questioning strategies, and differentiation to reach all children in the classroom)
•Maintain a child-friendly and safe teaching/learning environment in the classroom while adopting a holistic approach to teaching (physical, emotional, and intellectual wellbeing) and agree to be trained on standard Child Safeguarding Modules and comply with Child Safeguarding policies of the organization and partner organization
•Use positive discipline in the classroom and not use verbal or physical punishment in the classroom (which will result in loss of employment)
•Supervise the students upon arrival and departure and between sessions
2.Support and contribution to effective implementation of project objectives;
•Attend and participate in all Dorcas mandatory trainings when requested, including on teacher training and Child Safeguarding
•Assess children's learning achievement with pre, post and periodic assessments during the cycle and use this assessment information to better tailor instruction and targeting
•Document any protection concerns or any incident/act that causes harm to children and report them promptly to the center coordinator (as per Child Safeguarding)
•Enhance parental involvement through positive communication channels with parents.
•Respect principles of data protection and security, and all guidelines of documentation within the project and keep data records
3.Internal and external reporting
•Provide internal reporting to the line manager on sessions and activities according to Dorcas internal tools

•Good level of reporting skills
•Good knowledge of computers
•Ability to listen actively, understand, communicate effectively and discuss with supervisors and parents on children’s learning problems and psychosocial requirements.
•Flexibility, ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people
•Able to cope and work in considerably stressful environment
•Good tme management and task management skills
•Able to work independently and with autonomy, while following objectives and instructions
•High level of diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and security awareness
•Desire to develop his/her expertise and knowledge.
•Motivated, dynamic; able and willing to take initiatives

Professional competencies required
•Diploma or Bachelor or incomplete degree in Education, Sociology or Psychology

•Previous experience in teaching will be an added advantage
