The Education Officer with a focus on Basic Literacy and Numeracy programming will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of quality education services in the assigned locations and technical oversight and support for partner staff as well as Dorcas staff. He/she ensures that the daily activities are implemented in compliance with Dorcas policies and work plan.
The Education Officer is part of the program department reporting to the project manager.
Dorcas is addressing the specific needs of out of school children and vulnerable children attending schools who are at risk of dropout (Ages 6 – 14) by providing them with quality education and skills, to empower them and enabling them to potentially enroll in formal education channels.
Dorcas NFE programs include:
•Basic Literacy and Numeracy classes targeting Out of School Children lacking basic skills;
•Homework support (Remedial Support) classes targeting enrolled children who are struggling with grade level progression;
The different programs will follow the National curriculum when applicable, with the goal of integrating children and retaining children in formal,
1-Support provision of Non-Formal Education (NFE):
•Supervise, implement and evaluate NFE Programs in the field (3 locations: Rural Damascus, Aleppo and Homs)
•Conduct regular field visits in order to ensure that the project is being implemented effectively
•Contribute in preparing relevant documents (including Education guidance notes, lesson plans, evaluation documents, brochures, information notes, information board updates,) for target communities
•Contribute to establishing and implementing operational work plans, setting clear targets and planning for ongoing project’s activities
•Participate in the planning of the education activities including focus groups, awareness sessions, and others.
•Monitor the execution of projects on the field and provide staff with the support, guidance and capacity building to complete the assigned tasks
2-Support and contribution to effective implementation of project objectives;
•Attend and participate in all Dorcas mandatory trainings when requested, including on teacher training and Child Safeguarding
•Support team in enhancing parental involvement through positive communication channels with parents.
•Respect principles of data protection and security, and all guidelines of documentation within the project and keep data records
•Participate in coordination meetings with national and international institutions and education working group where appropriate and collaborate with partners and other agencies when required
•Participate in compiling and analysing the Educational/Learning outcome of the project monitoring (including children benefitting from the programs) and evaluating data
•Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager

•Provide internal reporting to the line manager on project activities according to Dorcas internal tools
•Produce regular reports to line manager on field visit providing technical feedback and propose clear action plan.
•Contribute in reporting to the donors

•Good knowledge of computers
•Ability to listen actively, understand, communicate effectively and discuss with supervisors and parents on children’s learning problems and psychosocial requirements.

•Able to cope and work in considerably stressful environment
•Good time management and task management skills
•Able to work independently and with autonomy, while following objectives and instructions
