The overall aim of the Child Protection officer will be to co-lead on interventions addressing violations of children’s rights to protection from abuse, exploitation, violence and abuse. He/She is responsible for ensuring that quality programmes are implemented and capacities developed to provide these kinds of protection to children in Dorcas emergency’s response.
Dorcas is addressing the specific needs of vulnerable children and adolescents and their families to strengthen their resilience through ensuring a protective environment that is conducive to their protection, psychosocial wellbeing and positive coping
1-Support and contribution to effective implementation of project objectives;
•Provide technical guidance and direction for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of PSS activities provided to vulnerable children/adolescents and their families in Dorcas community centres and partners’.
•Make frequent centres visits (Homs, Aleppo and Rural Damascus) to monitor the implementation of activities, identify opportunities and constraints and any adjustments needed including staff training.
•Make frequent visits to monitor the implementation of the activities in outreach.
•Ensure that Child Protection standards are included in all centres and services.
•Support the child protection committees in their tasks
•Contribute in designing and supervising the Community Outreach intervention
•Contribute in strengthening the capacity of the community to prevent and respond to violence, abuse, neglect & exploitation
2-Organisation and Management Responsibilities:
•Represent the agency/organisation in meetings with other partners and other actors, to advocate and promote programme goals and objectives.
•Liaise with other agencies/NGOs/government bodies/donors to ensure coordination, implementation of common standards in the field and consideration of protection issues in assistance programs.
•Attend and participate in all Dorcas mandatory trainings when requested
•Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises
•Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager
3-Internal and external reporting
•Provide internal reporting to the line manager according to Dorcas internal tools
•Produce regular reports to line manager on field visit providing technical feedback and propose clear action plan.
•Contribute in reporting to the donors

Personal competencies required
•Fluent in Arabic – written and spoken
•Good level of reporting skills
•Good knowledge of computers
•Ability to listen actively, understand, communicate effectively and discuss with supervisors and parents on children’s learning problems and psychosocial requirements.
•Flexibility, ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people
•Able to cope and work in considerably stressful environment
•Good time management and task management skills
•Able to work independently and with autonomy, while following objectives and instructions
•High level of diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and security awareness
•Desire to develop his/her expertise and knowledge.
•Motivated, dynamic; able and willing to take initiatives
•Fluent in Arabic – written and spoken

Professional competencies required
•Diploma or Bachelor degree in Education, Sociology or Psychology
•High communication skills
•Previous experience in Child Protection Programs will be an added advantage
•Experience working for an NGO preferred
based on qualification and experience
