Responsibilities
Programme Cycle Management and Programme Quality

-Support in the design and drafting of a comprehensive protection mainstreaming approach for the programme, in consultation with key relevant Medair staff, including an implementation and monitoring plan
- Advocate for the safety and dignity of crisis affected communities with a focus on women and girls as well people living with disabilities
Keep abreast of latest developments in humanitarian protection approaches and apply these in the programme, including gender, GBV, PSS/PFA, etc.
- Support area bases and provide capacity building assistance where necessary
- Support adherence to programmatic and organization-wide systems and procedures for ensuring good practice to meet sectoral standards in humanitarian accountability and programme quality. For example, the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Disaster Relief, CHS, IASC Minimum Standards in Protection Mainstreaming and AAP/PSEA, Sphere Humanitarian Charter etc.
- Promote an approach that pays attention to accountability to communities and partners as well as to donors and other key stakeholders.
- Provide / organise training on protection mainstreaming to Medair staff and partners
- Conduct protection risk assessment for Medair project locations.
- Support community based initiatives – e.g. cash programming, FGDs

Project implementation

- Conduct regular field trips to Medair project sides and communities for support and supervision, ensuring implementation of protection mainstreaming according to the project design and protection guidelines
- Conduct focus group discussion and key informant interviews to collected beneficiary feedback.
- Ensure a beneficiary feedback system is designed, implemented and utilised to collect beneficiary input and use this in project development
- Organise and assist in distributions to include services for people living with mobility impairments

Representation and Coordination

- Engage with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to promote and enhance understanding of protection mainstreaming.
- Function as GBV, gender and AAP focal point within Medair
- Help to build and maintain professional relations with relevant organizations including the UN cluster system, Government departments, NGOs and donors.
- Represent Medair, and the work and perspectives of our partners, at all relevant cluster and coordination meetings and protection technical working groups.

Other

- Contribute to the development of Medair's Country Strategy, ensuring protection is included and up to standards and guidelines in the strategy
- Contribute to proposal developments to ensure integration of protection elements
- Participate as requested in Medair internal workshops and distance learning sessions to keep up with changing trends, new guidelines and best practices


Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in a relevant subject such as Human Rights/ IHL/Refugee
Law/ Social Work/ Humanitarian Assistance/ Development
Studies/ Gender/ other related areas.
- 2 years experience in the humanitarian sector in a
programmatic role with experience of protection mainstreaming.
- Experience of working with, and a demonstrated understanding
of, humanitarian standards and principles of good practice.
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
- Excellent Arabic (spoken and written)
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft
Excel, Word and Outlook
Desirable:
- Relevant humanitarian protection training
Post-graduate degree in the humanitarian sector
- Management training
- 2 years experience in the design and implementation of
protection mainstreaming in humanitarian programmes and/or the
integration of protection in humanitarian programming.
& Experience of developing training materials and providing
training to a range of audiences.
- At least 2 years&experience in technical writing.
- Familiar with Qlik, ODK, Kobo, and BOX

The successful candidate must be legally allowed to Work in Syria, need to be holder of fully valid passport for travel to Lebanon/Jordan for training.

This is a position based in Damascus/Country Office with periodic field visits (subject to staff safety procedures and movement approvals). Project locations currently include Rural Damascus, Homs,Der Ez-Zor, and Aleppo Governorates.

Working week is usually 5 days per week, Sunday to Thursday 8:30 - 16:30.

This position requires flexibility at times. Travel might be required to Lebanon/Jordan/Switzerland for training or meetings.

Planned start date: As Soon As Possible

Salary and Benefits
We offer an interesting job with Medair and competitive remuneration. We will offer the successful applicant a six months contract on current projects inclusive of 3 months' probation period, renewable dependent on both performance and funding for subsequent projects. .

You must be available to start work As Soon As Possible. Candidate should be willing and able to work in Damascus, Rural Damascus, Homs,Der Ez-Zor and Aleppo and undertake field visits to other governorates (subject to movement approval).
