Responsibilities
To ensure the development of a high quality phycho-social support for children and community, and to effectively coordinate with AVSI management and main partners in order to contribute to effective integration of PSS with educational activities planned.
In line with AVSI strategy standards:
• Actively participate to Active Learning and PSS trainings organized by AVSI
• Organize, in collaboration with AVSI management and the partner SARC and the MoE, sessions of PSS for children and community in East Ghouta, Rural Damascus.
• Ensure technical adherence to AVSI Manual and procedures in the psychosocial support intervention
• Correctly apply and monitor the child protection standards, AVSI code of conduct in community of concern with specific focus on the education activities;
• Selecting with teachers and the partner SARC, with specific elaborated criteria, the children who are participating to PSS sessions;
• Coordinate all the PSS activities implemented in the project for children; facilitate training session, follow up and monitoring of the volunteers’ team on how to design and conduct structural recreational activities and focused center based PSS activities;
• In agreement with AVSI Management and its partner SARC conducting home visits to local households and monitoring the status of the child/family and making suggestions for ameliorating it;
• Elaborate in agreement with AVSI management a monitoring and evaluation plan of activity and monitor the implementation of the PSS activities done with SARC volunteers and reporting;
• Evaluating the sessions of PSS by appropriate tools in collaboration with AVSI management;
• Elaborate strategies and activities in collaboration with AVSI management to quality integrate and include children with disabilities or from other cultures in the school system;
• Taking into consideration in PSS activities disabilities, gender and age characteristics;
• Provide regular field & program team written reports including key recommendations for improvements in terms on integrating PSS in Education at field level;
• Work with Education coordinator, Project Manager and M&E/data unit to ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems are in place, support staff in all monitoring processes and provide monthly and weekly reports on progress of activities;
• Organize monthly meetings with teachers and volunteers to share lessons learned and exchange experiences in terms of CP and PSS activities implementation;
• Share information on field-level successes and challenges with the team;
• Regularly coordinate and participate in the meetings with other PSS/Child Protection Officers and the CP focal point of the consortium and, on request, to UN cluster Protection;
• Regularly plan and coordinate with the Education specialists to:
o Establish and review monthly plan and priorities
o Weekly exchange feedback on the schools, community and cases’ situation


Qualifications
• Very good knowledge of English written and spoken;
• Experience of building field staff’s capacities through trainings or learning by doing;
• Excellent communication, reporting, and negotiation skills;
• Ability to conceptualize, develop, plan, suggest and manage trainings sessions and workshops;
• Strong commitment to humanitarian and child protection values;
• A very high sense of discretion and integrity when dealing with child protection cases;
• Commitment to the aims, principles and values of AVSI;
• Substantial experience in emergency and post-crisis environments;
• Strong cross-cultural sensitivity and flexibility;
• Proficiency in Office programs: Excel, Word and Power Point.


Specific Vacancy Requirements
• A minimum 2 years’ experience in a program position preferably with Local or International NGOs in the field of PSS/Child Protection;
• Experience working in PSS with children it is compulsory;
