Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, the Protection Officer is responsible for the technical supervision and coordination of all protection-related activities implemented by INTERSOS. S/he will ensure that training and capacity building needs of field protection staff are timely addressed and that the protection services and activities meet quality standards in the sector.
The Protection Officer is based in Damascus with frequent field visit to Hama Governorate and to Rural Damascus.
•Supervise and provide technical guidance and support to protection staff: 3 case workers 3 the protection technical support staff (PSS), ensuring quality in the implementation of activities and services as well as the adherence to protection standards.
•Regularly verify the status of the case plans, coordinate with the Case Managers for case reviews and provide feedback to case workers and protection technical staff.
•Organize regular and ad hoc case management meetings with the Case Management Team (Case Manager and Case workers) and other technical protection support staff (PSS), and provide guidance in particular for complex cases and to discuss general challenges in their tasks and in the identification of protection cases.
•Organize regular meetings for the planning process of activities with Area Coordinators (2) for the areas of intervention and conduct field visits to support the project protection team during the implementation.
•Support in preparing monthly action plans for the Protection team and monthly micro-plan for the mobile unit with due consideration to security and other field constraints
•Develop monitoring tools and conduct regular monitoring of field activities to ensure quality and provide guidance to the team.
•Provide support to the Case Management Team in regular case management audits and reviews, to enhance the quality of the response in line with established SoPs and minimum standards.
•Review data and information collected during protection activities and compile regular protection reports highlighting gaps, concerns and trends to inform future programming.
•Provide support and guidance to Mobile Unit team in the planning and implementation of participatory community activities, awareness sessions and in the general communication with communities.
•Identify capacity building needs of protection staff assessing their knowledge and skills and accordingly provide learning opportunities through trainings, workshops and/or simulation exercises.
•Support the Protection Coordinator in developing and/or updating protection tools and training material in order to meet projects requirement.
•Produce monthly Protection program report capturing achievements, gaps and lessons learnt
•Support the Project Manager in developing required donor reports, providing relevant insights on protection related issues.
•Establish and maintain collaborative relations with relevant SARC Referent at Central and Branch level and other project stakeholders working in the project areas.
•Proactively participate in relevant protection coordination meetings, as requested by the Protection Coordinator.
•Support a smooth coordination among the Mobile Protection team.
•Promptly report to the Protection Coordinator any relevant information related to the implementation of the protection activities.
•Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor in line with the role.


Qualifications
University Degree in Social Sciences or related field

Specific Vacancy Requirements
• Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience in the protection sector (of which at least 1 year in a supervisory role)
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Good leadership skills
• Strong technical knowledge in general protection (i.e. CP, PSS, and protection community approach)
• Respect and non-discriminatory attitude
•Good interpersonal and communication skills
•Strong report writing skills
•Strong planning and organizational skills
•Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
•Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
•Previous experiences with INGO are considered an asset
