Responsibilities
Background:

The project aims to empower students with hearing disabilities at the University of Damascus, the Faculty of Arts / Department of Libraries and the Faculty of Education / Department of Special Education, to be able to follow their university educational achievement effectively and on an equal basis with their peers without disabilities, in addition to enhancing the inclusion of persons with hearing disabilities within university life.

The project will target the students at the first year of the above mentioned two departments (16 students with hearing disabilities including 10 females).



To achieve these goals, the project will implement the following activities:

1. Real time sign language translation services during all lectures: beside providing an accessible learning opportunity this way will encourage PWDs to physically attend campus and lectures and actively participate in university life, which is thought to enhance their mental health, self-esteem and confident.

2. Video recording of the sign language translated lectures and distribution of digital files to the beneficiaries to be their digital library for home study and also works as study materials for prospective students.

3. Organizing seminars and study groups to enhance the understanding of the lectures and lighting on some areas that are difficult to capture through sign language. These seminars will be attended by peer students without hearing disabilities who will be encouraged to volunteer to support. Engagement of volunteers will be incentivized by free subscription in ICDL and English courses.

4. Raising the competence and skills of persons with hearing disabilities, especially in the field of computers skills and Arabic language through specialized courses provided for free.

5. Raise the awareness of persons without disabilities in the field of sign language to enhance integration and mobilize them in project activities through free-of charge sign language courses.

6. Raise the awareness around disability inclusion in general and hearing disabilities in particular within university campus through dissemination of awareness raising materials (Leaflets, Brochures, Wallpapers, guidelines) that help the integration of persons with hearing disabilities in the different aspects of university campus life (administration and registry, library, cafeteria, students union, clubs, etc.…)



Functions / Key Results Expected:

The admin will support PWDs projects in its duration with focusing on the above project.



Under the overall direction of the Economic Development and Livelihood team leader and Disability Inclusion Unit project manager, and the supervision of the assigned project manager, the Project Admin / Finance assistant will be responsible to ensure the successful achievement of all project activities by performing the following tasks

- Review workplan, developed by project team, of all activities and develop a comprehensive and detailed list of tasks with clear timeframe.

- Assist in market survey and collection of offers for all procurement process related to project’s activities

- Organize offers and micro-purchases and follow-up on finalizing procurement process on time and arrange for delivery of goods and services according to activities agenda.

- Collect and keep full track record of invoices and receipts and submit to project assistant.

- Ensure logistical arrangement readiness for all training events at all workshop’s venues including seating, training materials, list of attendees, visibility and clear training agenda.

- Manage day-to-day tasks of training events according to training agenda

- Coordinate between projects team and supervisor to handle emerging issues during training and come-out with alternative suggestions for solution, while reporting to supervisor and UNDP about major issues.

- Keep track record of event activities including attendance, complains, problem encountered, results and achievements Monitor all project activities, expenditures and progress towards achieving the project output;

- Develop monitoring and impact indicator for the project success;

- Monitor and evaluate overall progress on achievement of results

- Provide feedback to the Project Manager on project activities;

- Suggest strategies to the Project Management for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the project by identifying bottlenecks in completing project activities and developing plans to minimize or eliminate such bottlenecks;

- Assist the supervisor in preparing other relevant reports;

- Provide translation and interpreting services

- Support in communication and public relation

- Perform other duties as required;

Specific Vacancy Requirements


Education:

Bachelor’s degree



Experience:

2 years of experience in managing relevant projects



Language Requirements:

- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages,

- Fluent in Arabic and very good writing, reading and speaking skills in English

- Knowledge of Italian and / or Spanish Language is a strong asset
