Responsibilities
Background:

Fruit trees are one of the important components of the agriculture production in Syria. Products of the fruit tree form an important input for food processing industries, export, and food consumption. The sector received sharp hit during the

war years, which threatens to deprive thousands for farmers of their main source of income and affect economic activities that depended on their production.

This project comes in response to the damage done to the fruit tree sector because of the extensive destruction of orchards where the provision of seedlings is a key element for medium-term restoration (over 2-3 year).

The rehabilitation of these nurseries will provide farmers with a reliable source of seedlings as well as natural fertilizer and thus helps them to restore their agricultural activities.

 

Job Purpose and Outputs:

Project manager is responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, executive, run the project on a day-to-day basis, control and delivering and to monitor ongoing project to ensure that work is properly executed within deadlines by planning and organizing tasks while managing a contractor in order to completion of project



 

Duties and responsibilities

Planning:

- Develop a planning mechanism to ensure an efficient and effective achievements of the project objectives, and the key project indicators and meeting project deadlines

- Create a schedule and project timeline.

- Holding coordination meetings with stakeholders.



Implementing:

- Manage day-to-day project implementation and overall coordination of project outcomes.

- Ensure supervision of the project personnel and ensure effective communication and coordination between the project staff and the UNDP office.

- Carry out the supervision of the green house construction works in full compliance with the relevant Technical Reference Document;

- Follow-up the implementation of civil and green house construction works and compliance with the relevant agreement with vendors.

- Ensure timely preparation and compilation of the project work plan

- Establish effective coordination, monitoring, information sharing and reporting systems.



Monitoring progress and Reporting:

- Track deliverables and ensure that the project is meeting what initially planned

- Determining the cause of deviations from the plan

- Conducting field visits to the work sites to see the progress of the work of the project and in all its aspects

- Submit progress monthly reports also final report providing details about progress against the project plan and achievements against the project targets, challenges and obstacles faced or may be faced and update on the project risk and how to treat it and take corrective actions to address deviations after consultation with UNDP office.



Quality and Satisfaction: 

- Ensure that the quality and quantity of the materials provided by the vendors, comply with the specifications in Technical Reference Document and record the quantities received.

- Ensure to deliver to the beneficiaries what they expected or better and make sure that they’re satisfied with the results as planned and get their feedback



Networking:

- Promote networking and knowledge sharing through continuous coordination with local stakeholders including local community representations, community leader and beneficiaries



Communication Plan:

- Prepare and provide reports and documentation.

- Coordinate with communication and support them as required to document project activities with photos and videos.


Qualifications
Experience:

- Has experience 3 years at least in project management.

- Has experience in the Green house establishment.

- Has Minimum experience in Agriculture operations.

- Has minimum financial experience.



Education:

University degree in agriculture engineering preferred in (Horticulture-Rural engineering, general section)



Skills:

- Strong communication skills

- Demonstrated reporting skills

- Relevant computer skills

- Friendly, helpful personality.



Language Requirements:

- Proficiency in Arabic, working knowledge of English is an asset


Salary and Benefits
- This position is with ICI for the benefit of UNDP- plant nurseries project​

-​ Candidates with more than 3 months Third Party Personnel contract validity, will not be eligible to apply for this position

- Duration and Type of Assignment: 6 Months
