Responsibilities
Retinal Imaging & Telemedicine Coordination
Perform high-quality retinal imaging of premature infants using SAMS-designated fundus cameras.
Upload images to the tele-ROP platform for remote interpretation by consulting ophthalmologist
Ensure timely image capture aligned with neonatal screening schedules.
Maintain equipment and troubleshoot minor technical issues.
Family Education & Counseling
Explain the nature of ROP and potential outcomes to parents and caregivers in clear, culturally appropriate terms.
Reinforce the importance of imaging, timely treatment, and long-term follow-up.
Distribute educational handouts at discharge and during clinical visits.
Maintain respectful, empathetic communication with families.
Outpatient Follow-Up Coordination
At NICU Discharge:
Confirm contact information (phone, address) and schedule outpatient follow-up.
Enable appointment reminders (via SMS, call, or printed notice).
Document discharge planning and patient handout delivery in the system.
Missed Appointments (No-Show/NOS) Protocol:
1st NOS: Call parent and reschedule appointment. Log all details.
2nd–4th NOS:
Attempt phone contact; if unreachable, send certified and regular mail with the new appointment date.
Document mail receipts and all interactions.
Escalate concerns to medical leadership (e.g., ophthalmologist or NICU staff).
5th NOS: Send formal notice of termination of follow-up care via certified mail and document in records. Notify CPS and the medical director.
The work Location will be roving(SAMS-affiliated hospitals and clinics in Syria and/or remote telehealth settings)

Qualifications
Degree or certification in healthcare (nursing, ophthalmic technology, medical imaging, or public health).
Experience in neonatal care, pediatric ophthalmology, or patient outreach preferred.
Training or experience with retinal imaging equipment (preferred but not required).
Familiarity with telemedicine platforms and electronic medical records (EMR).
Strong communication skills, including ability to engage low-literacy or underserved populations.
Prior humanitarian or NGO experience a plus.
Fluency in Arabic required; proficiency in English preferred.
Experience in neonatal care, pediatric ophthalmology, or patient outreach preferred.
Training or experience with retinal imaging equipment (preferred but not required).

Salary and Benefits
The salary will be defined according to the SAMS salary scale.
