Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the QA & Training Supervisor and Officer, the QA Assistant will:
Quality Assurance and Quality Control:
•Conduct regular Quality Assurance (QA) visits to operational teams and task sites to assess safety, operational adequacy, and reliability, and to provide clear, constructive feedback.
•Ensure HALO minimum standards for the frequency of QA visits are consistently met, supporting adherence to operational standards and high-quality outputs across HALO Syria.
•Conduct sample physical Quality Control (QC) checks on cleared land and verify that Team Leaders are implementing 100% internal QC in accordance with SOPs.
•Work with Team Leaders to ensure tasks are set up in line with Task Management SOPs, including the correct establishment of Control Points and First Aid Points.
•Verify that task suspension and completion markings, documentation, and reports are completed accurately and in accordance with SOPs.
•Ensure the quality of Risk Education sessions and use QA visits to support continuous improvement in delivery.
Reporting, Documentation, and Follow-up:
•Accurately record all QA visits, findings, and non-conformities using approved tools, checklists, and Survey123.
•Clearly and timely communicate QA findings, feedback, and recommendations to the QM Supervisor and QM Officer.
•Track corrective and preventive actions resulting from QA/QC findings and support follow-up with relevant departments to ensure timely closure.
•Monitor trends, recurring issues, and lessons learned, contributing to continuous improvement across operations.
•Contribute actively to monthly Quality Management review meetings.
Programme Capacity Building:
•Deliver quality management and QA-related training, mentoring, and on-the-job support to teams.
•Support Team Leaders and teams to strengthen internal QC practices and ownership of quality standards.
•Support teams in improving the quality, clarity, and consistency of survey reports.
•Support the QM Supervisor, QM Officer, and Head Medic in the planning, observation, and documentation of CASEVAC exercises.
•Record findings from CASEVAC exercises and support the implementation of corrective actions as required.
•Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture at all times.
Leadership and Professional Conduct:
•Model HALO’s professional, safety, and quality standards at all times, setting a positive example for junior staff.
•Demonstrate reliability, adaptability, and professionalism in all working environments.
•Support a culture of continuous learning and improvement within operational teams.
•Be willing to travel regularly to all assigned locations within the North or South work region, and to other programme locations as required.
•Strictly follow organisational procedures, use approved checklists, and maintain accurate and complete records.

•Prior experience supporting HALO Syria operational activities—such as Non-Technical Survey (NTS), Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), and Clearance—is desirable but not mandatory.
•Intermediate Care Provider qualification
•EOD Level 1+ is preferred, but not mandatory.
•Numeracy and literary skills required, computer literacy would be an advantage.
English language skills are not required.
