About us
COSV is a non-profit association with legal personality, founded in 1968, engaged in development and humanitarian aid
Since 1972, COSV has the recognition by the General Directorate for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, from over thirty years, COSV works with the leading agencies of the United Nations and its numerous offices as well as with funds from the European Commission.
COSV operates for peace, environment protection, socio-economic development through inclusive paths, built on partnership and networking with the aim of empowering local realities. Our association is fully independent both organizationally and politically and operates rejecting any behaviour that compromise its decision-making autonomy or which do not consider the reality of the Countries in a correct and respectful way, also in terms of dignity of the people.
Our work is oriented to the development of local shared resources and to the establishment through and in the local communities of strong relations, to sustain socio-economic transformations and progress.
In Syria COSV would specifically bring the expertise of its Social Economy Unit (SEU) to support the recovery process in the Country. The SEU was created with the specific aim of reconnecting the general interest to the economic value by embracing the experience of the social and solidarity economy, the development cooperation and the intercultural dialogue.
The SEU moves according to the following approach:
- Do not do by yourself!: we engage practitioners and experts, researchers and networks on social economy in a strategic alliance for a co-design and management of the actions, including scientific review.
- True ownership: we position ourselves in the micro and meso level of the social economy ecosystem in the countries where we are, with a high innovative incubation and acceleration programs, giving input also to national policies, without harming the local ownership process
- Let's Contextualize!: we bring value to intercultural dialogue and intercultural facilitation among Europe and international experts and local contextualization of the social economy phenomenon.
Social Economy initiatives are impact multiplier for communities, they are driven from a human centred economic model, their growth is exponential (not incremental) for all, for those that are founder, shareholders, investors, workers, volunteers, clients or beneficiaries and for all those that indirectly benefit from their actions. A social economy initiative is willing to be suitable from the economic, social, cultural and environmental perspective, the four dimension of our collective wellbeing.
