Responsibilities
Assist the Protection Officer in providing capacity-building to staff, volunteers, community-based structures and local partner staff.
• Report daily protection updates to the Protection Officer for Oxfam situation reports.
• Work with communities and partners to identify and support community-based protection initiatives.
• Assist the Protection Officer in conducting community gendered protection analysis (CGPA) and other meetings to conclude protection response plans.
• Together with the Protection Officer, facilitate the community-based selection, as well as the training, of protection community-based structures e.g., committees.
• Assist the Protection Officer in working closely with the community-based structure to conclude community-based protection action plans and initiatives.
• Conduct awareness-raising activities, including sensitization activities, on relevant protection and community coordination topics following Oxfam Protection guidance and SOPs.
• Conduct Individual Protection Assessments and determine initial, appropriate protection responses in coordination with the Protection Officer.
• In coordination with the Protection Officer and local partner, facilitate the process for the timely provision of Individual Protection Assistance and for the timely distribution of kits, and accompany project participants at the distribution site.
• Provide timely and accurate information on service access to staff, Field Support Personnel (FSPs), and affected communities.
• Whenever requested, attend Protection coordination and working group meetings in coordination with the Protection Officer.
• Work closely with WASH and Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) teams, as well as partners, to identify integration opportunities for protection activities, in coordination with the Protection Officer.
• Report on Oxfam protection activities in coordination with the Protection Officer.
• In coordination with Protection Officer and MEAL staff, review Programme data to identify protection trends and plan appropriate responses.
• Assist in facilitating workshops with other humanitarian actors to agree on service mapping and referral pathways.
• Contribute to inputting to protection reports, project reports, and ccurate records of protection activities

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social studies , International Relations, Humanitarian Assistance, or a related field. With a minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in protection, human rights, or humanitarian programming.

Or 3 years of demonstrated experience in protection, human rights, or humanitarian programming, if BA is not in related field.Good practical understanding of protection issues and approaches in humanitarian contexts, including the constraints, sensitivities and risks associated with such work.

Good understanding of protection standards, key sectoral issues and processes.

Demonstrable understanding of the gender dynamics of protection works, willingness and confidence to implement protection activities with an emphasis on the gendered aspects of conflict, violence, and abuse

The ability to work as a team player – supporting other departments, especially Gender, is essential

Fair understanding of monitoring and learning processes

Proven ability to apply professional and ethical standards to data collection and analysis processes, and research

Good verbal and written communication skills in Arabic and English

Able to live and work in remote, insecure and logistically challenging operations and in a multi-cultural environment, with a high level of adaptability and initiative

Desirable

Experience in conducting participatory assessments.

Experience in community-based programming.

Experience in conducting individual protection assessments
