Responsibilities
The Director of Software Engineering is responsible for end-to-end ownership of software execution across all products and projects, ensuring high-quality delivery, technical scalability, security, and operational reliability.
This role leads multi-disciplinary engineering teams working across:
• POS systems
• Custom enterprise applications
• Mobile applications
• Large-scale marketplace platforms
• Public Platforms
The Director acts as the technical authority and delivery owner, while partnering closely with Product, PMO, Operations, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Delivery
• Own software delivery across all applications, platforms, and internal systems
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and architectural principles
• Ensure predictable delivery while managing shared engineering resources across multiple projects
• Translate product requirements into executable technical plans
Team & Organization Management
• Lead and develop engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers
• Build scalable team structures across UAE and Syria offices
• Drive hiring, performance management, and technical career progression
• Foster a strong engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, and accountability
Architecture, Quality & Security
• Own system architecture, scalability, and technical debt management
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of production systems
• Oversee QA, testing strategies, and release management
• Own cybersecurity posture in coordination with Governance & Compliance
Infrastructure & Internal IT
• Oversee infrastructure, cloud/on-prem systems, and internal IT support
• Ensure systems are secure, cost-efficient, and operationally resilient
• Support event-based and on-ground operational technology needs
Data & AI Enablement
• Oversee data engineering foundations and analytics pipelines
• Enable AI and automation initiatives aligned with product and business needs
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Director of Product & Delivery on scope, priorities, and feasibility
• Partner with Operations for on-ground and event-based execution
• Coordinate with Finance on cost control and capacity planning
• Support Sales with technical pre-sales and solution validation (as needed)

• Final authority on technical design and implementation decisions
• Authority to assign and prioritize engineering resources
• Authority to approve engineering tools, frameworks, and standards
• Input authority on hiring, promotions, and performance actions within engineering

• On-time delivery rate of engineering commitments
• Production defect rate and post-release issues
• System uptime and incident response performance
• Lead time from code commit to production
• Security incidents and remediation timelines
• Engineering team retention and engagement

Required Experience & Qualifications
• 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
• Proven experience leading multi-team, multi-project engineering organizations
• Strong background in backend systems, distributed architectures, and APIs
• Experience managing mobile applications and web platforms
• Solid understanding of infrastructure, DevOps, and security principles
• Experience working with cross-border or multi-office teams
• Prior hands-on engineering background (no longer required to code daily)
• 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
• Proven experience leading multi-team, multi-project engineering organizations
• Strong background in backend systems, distributed architectures, and APIs
• Experience managing mobile applications and web platforms
