Responsibilities
The MHPSS Officer ensures effective implementation and quality assurance of all MHPSS activities. Responsibilities include managing individual counselling for moderate to severe cases (assessments, treatment plans, psychotherapy, referrals), leading structured group sessions for children and caregivers, supervising social workers, building staff capacity, supporting MEAL and donor reporting, and ensuring safeguarding and trauma sensitive approaches. The Officer reports to the Field Senior Project Officer and receives technical supervision from the MHPSS Specialist in Damascus.
Responsibilities:
Activity Implementation:
-Manage moderate to severe child/caregiver cases: assessments, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and referrals, ensuring child and survivor centred approaches.
-Lead structured group sessions for children and parenting sessions for caregivers with social worker support, following TdH L manuals/SOPs.
-Empower communities to identify needs and lead initiatives (support groups, recreational/cultural activities) promoting healing and cohesion.
-Conduct situation/risk analyses, including service mapping, and develop local actions.
Technical Supervision & Quality Assurance:
-Monitor quality of all MHPSS activities against TdH L SOPs.
-Provide daily coaching, mentoring, supervisory meetings, and technical support to social workers/psychologists.
-Deliver trainings, identify capacity gaps, and implement capacity building plans with Field Senior Project Officer and MHPSS Specialist.
-Monitor staff well being (stress, burnout, trauma), guide access to staff care resources, and provide counselling/support.
-Lead delivery of Tdh L’s staff care curriculum and reinforce duty of care for partners/volunteers.
-Support case managers/social workers in updating service mappings, establishing referral pathways, and liaising with UN agencies, I/NGOs, and stakeholders.
-Ensure trauma sensitive approaches and safeguarding across all activities.
Reporting & Documentation:
-Conduct quality checks on MHPSS data trackers/databases.
-Provide inputs for donor reporting in coordination with Field Senior Project Officer.
-Join weekly/bi weekly field missions with case managers/social workers.
-Support MEAL data collection (client feedback, pre/post tests) with MEAL staff.
-Ensure confidentiality and data protection.
Coordination & Representation:
-Represent TdH L in sub national MHPSS Technical Working Groups, sharing key information, needs assessments, and training opportunities with the team.



Qualifications
Education: -University degree in Psychology and ability to practice psychotherapy
Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience in providing psychological interventions and counselling to children and caregivers . Experience in working with vulnerable population groups is an asset.
-Demonstrated experience in conducting psychological assessments and diagnosis and in treatment planning.
-Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team-leading and influencing.
Demonstrated experience supervising, managing, or training staff.
-Demonstrated experience in facilitating group sessions and conducting individual counselling.
-Previous experience of working with children and adults.
-Previous experience in working on trauma PTSD and complex grief
-Previous experience with an NGO is desirable.
-Experience with a range of psychotherapeutic methods/approaches such as systemic, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, or client-centered is an asset.

Languages / IT Skills:
-Fluent in Arabic, professional knowledge of English in an asset
-Good IT knowledge (Microsoft Office, Internet).
