Responsibilities
Functional Responsibilities and Main Duties
1. Coordination with Liaison / Admin / Area Managers and Partners regarding new (Authority) procedures, approvals or requirements.
2. Liaise with the UNDSS and/or INSO and other relevant organizations on matters related to safety and security.
3. Preparing documentation related to field visits, including Mission Orders and inter-governorate travel requests for international staff.
4. Facilitate Safety Risk Assessments and support the implementation of mitigation measures.
5. Support the day-to-day management of security and implementation of SOPs, ensuring procedures in place are understood and followed by all staff.
6. Updating the Daily Movement Tracking Sheet / Warden Sytstem
7. Assist the Programme Manager in identifying and monitoring risks to staff and programme activities, and make recommendations on SOPs, protocols and practices to reduce staff risk and vulnerability.
8. Deliver safety briefings and awareness sessions to newly hired personnel and visitors as well as staff briefings before field missions.
9. Following up with partners such as INSO and UNMAS regarding security trainings that can be provided to the ZOA team and Partners
10. Gather information desk-based security assessments and security visits to new sites or updated locations, helping to evaluate any risks endangering ZOA’s staff, beneficiaries or ZOA’s property in liaison with the Programme Manager or other senior staff. (quarterly or as needed)
11. Ensure that contingency plans for Crisis Management, Evacuation, Relocation, Hibernation, and Medical Evacuation are followed.
12. Support in drafting incident reports where necessary in a timely manner and submit to the Country Management Team.
13. Maintain systems (e.g. Maps, assessments, online incident database) to record the security context.
14. Inspects vehicles prior to field movement.
15. Receive, monitor and follow up team movement through check ins and ensure that other staff complete in a timely and accurate manner.
16. Represent ZOA in UNDSS and HQ Security meetings.


Qualifications
• Minimum working experience of 2 years in a safety & security role is required.
• Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity (esp. gender and ethnicity) is required.
• Very good spoken and written command of English.
• Excellent spoken and written command of Arabic.
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Previous UNSSAFE, HEAT or other similar personal safety awareness training preferred.



Specific Vacancy Requirements
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Operations, the Security Focal Point supports the implementation of projects across Syria through advice, support, and training relating to safety and security. She/he uses a wide network of relationships to gather relevant information, analyses this and provides recommendations to ensure the safety of staff and project activities. She/he supports the implementation of safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as outlined in the Country Security Plan and helps to review and update these where required. She/he supports the assessment of new project sites and at all times represents ZOA in adherence with its humanitarian values.

The Security Focal Point - Maternity Cover will handle mostly day to day administrative and logistical support security tasks to ensure ongoing safety and security of the staff and project activities with support of the Manager of Operations as needed, we are expecting to have the final selected applicant before the end of August and the duration of the maternity leave cover is until the end of December 2026.
