Responsibilities
• Review accounting entries prepared by the Junior Accountant and ensure transactions are correctly recorded, classified and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Take ownership of the monthly and annual closing process for both businesses, including accruals, prepayments, provisions, depreciation and other closing adjustments.
• Review the general ledger and trial balance and investigate unusual, incorrect or outstanding balances.
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet accounts, reconciliations and supporting schedules for submission to the Financial Controller.
• Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable, including customer/supplier balances, ageing, advances and outstanding items.
• Perform/review bank, cash, intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Oversee inventory accounting for the Building Materials business, including stock reconciliations, inventory valuation, Cost of Goods Sold and gross margin analysis.
• Monitor SPT project accounting, ensuring revenues and costs are correctly allocated and profitability can be tracked by project.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure acquisitions, disposals and depreciation are correctly recorded.
• Prepare accounting information and supporting schedules required for tax and statutory compliance and ensure deadlines are met.
• Prepare year-end schedules and supporting documentation for the external audit and assist in responding to auditor queries.
• Guide and review the work of the Junior Accountant, identify recurring errors and ensure timely and accurate accounting records.
• Coordinate with Treasury, Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse and Project teams to ensure financial information is complete and accurate.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 4–7 years of relevant accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for monthly closing and reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, trial balance, P&L, Balance Sheet, AR/AP, accruals, fixed assets and reconciliations.
• Experience in trading, distribution, construction or project-based businesses is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of inventory and Cost of Goods Sold accounting.
• Experience with accounting/ERP systems (Al Amin / Manara) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with tax compliance and external audit preparation.
• ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent qualification is an advantage but not mandatory.
